In an interview with Dennis Peng of True Voice of Taiwan on Friday, August 7th, Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the historical Chinese nationalist Kuomintang (KMT) party now based in China’s Taiwan region, asserts:
The status quo is not Taiwan independence. Taiwan has never been independent, nor has it ever been a country.1
The US-backed Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has in recent months amplified its provocative rhetoric in support of so-called “Taiwan independence” separatism, which is opposed not only by the KMT but also by the Taiwan-based People First Party (PFP), New Party (CNP), Non-Partisan Solidarity Union (NPSU), and Young China Party (YCP).
“Taiwan independence” (台独 taidu) or Taiwan poison (台毒 taidu)?
The DPP authorities have failed to deal with a major food safety scandal, which affected all cities in Taiwan. According to Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, “over 1,380 schools across Taiwan have been affected, with more than 100,000 students and teachers harmed in Taipei alone.”
Following this, they mishandled the situation, trying to cover up their problems. DPP spokesperson Wu Cheng went so far as to remark, “It’s not like I forced you to eat it!”
The scandal led to mass protests across Taipei on July 25th organized by the KMT. Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun was present and called on the public to jointly safeguard food safety and “oust the shameless DPP authorities.” By 20:00 that evening, it was announced that over 200,000 Taiwan residents were at the rally.
According to The Specter, who cited recent polls, around 60% of Taiwan compatriots support these protests. Protestors who were interviewed pointed to the DPP’s glorification of Japanese colonization, vilification of the mainland, and denial of their own Chinese ancestry.
DPP will bring ruin to China’s Taiwan
Mainland China and Taiwan have been part of one China since ancient times and share deep historical, cultural, and national ties. All of China’s inherent territory, including its Taiwan region, must be governed by Chinese people, not by the interests of some Western countries.
The DPP’s continued warmongering should draw scrutiny. Will the USA—itself short on arms—come to their aid? Will Japan? Evidence seems to indicate that this will not be the case.
As seen with the SMO in Ukraine, the West will send weapons, but they will never send troops to fight on behalf of the nation they are supposedly “supporting.” As KMT chairwoman Cheng Li-wun pointed out previously:
Americans did not go fight for Ukraine, and NATO has not helped them fight. They have only given Ukraine more and more weapons. They have fought for four years now, but the dead are all Ukrainians and the destroyed is Ukraine.
Of course, mainland China has no intention of taking up arms against Taiwan friends, but secession will not be tolerated. If the DPP authorities insist on waging war against the mainland, they will inevitably fail, and both sides will suffer heavily.
These acts will only bring ruin to the region and across China and by no means represent the will of the Chinese nation, including the views of compatriots living in Taiwan.
Peaceful reunification: the only way forward
Polymarket predictions at the time of writing suggest that the KMT has an 88% chance of winning the leadership elections in the Taiwan area, set to take place this November. The DPP is said to have a 13% chance.2
The One Country, Two Systems model, which has successfully brought peace and prosperity to Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR, will similarly facilitate enduring peace and mutually beneficial cooperation among Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan straits.
The full reunification of China is a historic mission to right the wrongs of China’s Century of Humiliation and represents the shared aspirations of all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots. No one can stop the wheel of history, and no foreign power is allowed to interfere.
The DPP should immediately cease their provocative rhetoric and stop causing trouble as Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan straits rise together toward realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
