This Privacy Policy explains how Voice of the Proletariat (hereinafter referred to as “this publication,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you access our newsletter, website, or related services. Where relevant, please refer to Substack’s and Stripe’s own privacy policies and terms of service.

What information does the publication collect?

Information Collected Upon Subscription

When subscribing to this publication, we are provided some user information by the Substack platform. This includes, but is not limited to:

• your name (as it appears on Substack);

• your profile photo (as it appears on Substack);

• the email address used for subscription;

• your location (IP-based); and

• usage data, including:

  • pages viewed,

  • links clicked, and

  • subscription source (e.g., referrals, Substack Notes, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google, DuckDuckGo)

If you unsubscribe, this publication will no longer be able to access your current information through the Substack platform.

Information Collected When Starting a Paid Subscription

When starting a paid subscription to this publication, our payment processor Stripe provides us with the following information:

• your billing name, if provided;

• the email address used for subscription;

• your preferred billing/subscription plan; and

• information linked to your method of payment, including, where applicable:

  • the payment’s origin,

  • the last four digits of your card,

  • the expiry month and year of your card, and

  • your card type and issuer.

These are provided by Stripe and apply only to paid subscribers. Upon the cancellation of a paid subscription, we will continue to see past transaction history for a certain period, and this data may be used for tax purposes.

How is collected information used and handled?

As subscriptions are handled entirely through Substack and Stripe, we do not share your information with third parties. Users should note that, by publicly interacting with content on Substack, including that of this publication, your Substack account may be viewed by other users/readers. Based on what information you make publicly available, this may include one or more of the following:

• your name (as it appears on Substack);

• your profile photo (as it appears on Substack);

• your subscription status with this and other Substack publications (unless hidden), and

• social media accounts you have publicly associated with your Substack account.

To alter what information is publicly shown, please visit your Substack profile settings. You may choose to make your likes anonymous or hide some or all of your subscriptions from being shown on your profile.

Does the publication share or sell collected information?

This publication is wholly independent and funded solely through supportive readers’ donations and paid subscriptions. No data is ever shared with sponsors, no advertisers receive user data, and no political party, organization, or state entity influences data collection. No external organization influences data practices. The transparency principles of our sourcing and editorial standards also apply to our handling of personal data.

AI Policy

How is data protected?

This publication is hosted on Substack and utilizes Stripe for payment processing. Substack uses encryption and SSL technology to safeguard sensitive data during transmission and implements encryption protocols for data at rest. Stripe utilizes end-to-end encryption (E2EE) by default for all payment data, ensuring that sensitive information is encrypted at the point of entry and remains as such until it reaches Stripe’s secure servers. This prevents unauthorized access during data transmission. For more information, please see the respective companies’ own privacy policies. As a Canada-based publication, we are also required to comply with PIPEDA.

While Substack and Stripe handle the majority of this publication’s subscriber data, this publication itself takes many active steps to ensure continued security and will raise known issues to the two companies. If we become aware of any breaches to user data, affected users will be notified as soon as possible.
